D.Ice - The Middle Way

Description

From an idea spawned by the searching of Buddhism (which I still don't quite understand but I'm hoping to learn more or at least find a site that explains it WITHOUT the big words ^^;.... ) from the Middle Way that I believe leads to self-awakening.

It's pretty much the theme that D.Ice's manga theme is so I felt it was fitting. I do want to add spirituality and possible God(s) (as if the Shadowed Fate characters didn't tip you off) so I think it will help. I won't lean too heavily on it but keep the key points (kind of like how Sailor Moon is based on Greek Mythology but still retains a sort of detachment that doesn't make it completely on that mythology - just influenced).

Anyways, I wanted a full-body sketch but couldn't do the legs properly so her 'tails' took over and then I remembered the Eight-Fold Path and drew in crystal diamond things surrounding her. I think I'd use this for a cover :D.

Does anyone notice any differences in my drawing style? Is my art more properly proportional? Not with every piece but I have a feeling my art is trying to do something but I can't exactly pinpoint it.

First things first, about Buddhism, have you looked as BuddhaNet? I used to use it all the time for world religion papers in high school. Under the main title bar, 'Buddhist Studies', there's a basic guide containing a five-minute summary of Buddhism, and then you can go on to other, more detailed lessons. It might help. If you really feel like challenging yourself, there's always the Internet Sacred Text Archive, where you can read translations of the actual books.

About the picture, my initial thoughts are that it's pretty, and the pointed star in the background looks very nice (and even, which can be difficult to do). Not sure what you mean by ';proportional', but this picture does look a little more in proportion than some of your others, especially the shoulders. Sometimes they could be a little too small, making the head look a little too big, but these seem to be of a good size for her head and body. The collarbones are nicely placed, perhaps the end dips a bit too low, but this is personal preference more than actual critique. They look nice. ^^;

Going by what I can see of her form, it looks nice and rounded, though perhaps the hips are a bit too small compared to the shoulders. Personally, I find the hips tend to be at their widest point halfway down the thigh, so a little out of the range of this picture. It's a small thing though, and other people might disagree with it, so take that as you will.

But on the whole it does look like a cover-ish sort of image, so I think it looks very good in that regard. :D Good luck with researching Buddhism, and I hope to see this in colour. :D
