Lorelei is something nopony has ever seen before. Just as Zecora was new, as well as Rainbow Dash's friend Gilda, so is Lorelei. Her kind have lived on a large, secluded gathering of islands, several clans coexisting. Lorelei left home in search of a better life, finding herself stifled in her small world. In Withering City, she works for a living as a fisherman and while many avoid her, there are a few ponies who have started to befriend the strange looking fishy pony.
She goes by many names - Sea Horse, Mer-Pony, Water Horse. She prefers Mer-Pony as it seems the most friendliest, the other two are more of alluding to old legends of supernatural creatures, which she is quick to point out that she is not.
She first obtained her cutie mark when, like the story of fisherman and the sea, she was hunting a large sea creature and with her tenacity and determination, and days of hunting and finally getting her catch, came the creation of her cutie mark and her specialty revealed. Lorelei will eat certain fish but there are a certain species of fish that she would rather protect then hunt. She has the knack to recognize the endangered and the few.
